Many have already joined in, with conversations and songs being performed in front of the camera throughout the course of today. According to a statement on He Will Not Divide Us’ website, the live stream will be available 24 hours a day, seven d...

Frank Ocean blasts Donald Trump, praises Obama in open letter

As President Donald Trump’s era begins, Frank Ocean pens an open letter. On Friday (Jan. 20), the Blonde crooner released the writing on Tumblr. “I’m really excited for these inauguration crowd numbers to come in,” he wrote. “Don’t cook the books either Donald. We all know your event was dry. No matter how many times CNN anchors repeat majestic or peaceful transition of power. The world can see America divided and the chaos in the streets.” While the message was a protest against President Trump, it was also a farewell to President Obama. “Barack we love you but it would’ve been equally presidential if you would’ve just walked on out while Donald got through that struggle speech trashing your career,” he added. “The majority knows man, we know you did good. We see it. “The majority ...

A Brief History of the Ownership of the Beatles Catalog

This week, Paul McCartney filed a lawsuit in a New York court against publisher Sony/ATV in an effort to regain his ownership stake in the Beatles publishing catalog in what could become one of the biggest legal struggles in recent music history. If successful, it would end a long and painful battle for McCartney over the ownership of his own songs, one that has involved everyone from early Beatles manager Brian Epstein to Michael Jackson, who bought the Beatles catalog in 1985 as part of a $47.5 million deal for ATV, a situation that has long been painful for McCartney. Though the fight has been ongoing for decades, it can be confusing to track the ownership of one of the most valuable catalogs in music history, and particularly how one of its main contributors was cut out of his own crea...

Norwegian Report Claims Jay Z’s Tidal Inflated Subscriber Numbers

In a lengthy article published Friday (Jan. 20), Norwegian media outlet Dagens Næringsliv claims that Jay Z’s company Tidal has been deliberately inflating subscriber numbers. The report says that although the company publicly touted that it had accumulated 3 million subscribers to its streaming service last March, a London-based record executive says they were told Tidal actually had 850,000 subscribers. Dagens Næringsliv has made several similar claims about the company over the past year, particularly regarding legal battles between its current ownership and its former ownership, Swedish-based company Aspiro AB. In one particular legal filing, Tidal’s complaint alleged that Aspiro’s executives had misrepresented the number of subscribers the service had at the time of ...
